A Domain-based network provides centralized administration of an entire network from a single computer called a server. Domains provide single user log on from any networked computer within the network perimeter. Users are able to access resources for which they have appropriate permission. While I do not want to go into the complexities of Domain networks, you can find out more by contacting your Network Administrator if you have difficulties connecting to your workplace domain.

To join a Domain, you must first ensure you have the following information and resources:

• a User Account on the Domain, this information you can get from your Network Administrator.
• Name of Domain.
• Computer running Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise
• Domain Controller must be running Windows Server 2003 (functional level or later).

Join a Windows 10 PC or Device to a Domain

On the Windows 10 PC go to Settings > System > About then click Join a domain.

Enter the Domain name and click Next. You should have the correct domain info, but if not, contact your Network Administrator.

Enter account information which is used to authenticate on the Domain then click OK.

Wait while your computer is authenticated on the Domain.

Click Next when you see this screen.

And then you’ll need to restart to complete the process.

When the sign in screen appears, you will notice the DOMAIN\User account is displayed. Enter your password and you will now be logged onto your Domain.

You will notice that once you are connected to the Domain, your About setting no longer list options that were presented before. This is because your computer is centrally managed by the server.

## What’s the difference between POP & IMAP

IMAP and POP are the protocols or technologies using which you can download messages from mail servers on your computer and access them with the help of mail clients such as Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird etc. The main advantage of this technology is that you can access your emails via a feature-rich browser-independent mail client. In case of POP, you get offline access to old mails too.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN IMAP AND POP

IMAP and POP are two different protocols. There are many differences between these two. The main difference is that IMAP(Internet Messaged Access Protocol) always syncs with mail server so that any changes you make in your mail client (Microsoft Outlook, Thunderbird) will instantly appear on your webmail inbox.

On the other hand, in POP(Post Office Protocol), your mail client account and mail server are not synced. It means whatever changes you make to your email account in the mail client will not be transferred to the webmail inbox.

In simple terms, if you are using IMAP and mark a mail as read, it gets marked as read in your web based inbox too (because the changes are happening on the server). However, this won’t be the case if you are using POP, because the mails are downloaded to your PC and the changes won’t reflect on the server.

HOW TO ACTIVATE THESE PROTOCOLS

Different mail services have different settings for dealing with protocols. In Gmail you can find options to activate both the protocols: POP and IMAP (Go to settings -> Forwarding and POP/IMAP). In Hotmail, only POP is present and it doesn’t support IMAP.

IMAP

The biggest advantage of using IMAP is you can access your mail from multiple mail clients and each client detects the change in real-time. Suppose mail server is connected with two different mail clients (let’s say Client 1 and Client 2) on different computers. If the user deletes a message in mail client 1, the change will appear on mail server immediately and also on mail client 2. In IMAP all messages from mail clients and servers are synced with each other.

POP

You can download emails from mail server to your PC using POP. After downloading, the original mail is removed from the server and hence you can’t access it from another computer (Note: In Gmail there is an option to keep the copy of mail in inbox. Thunderbird also provides an option to leave messages on server until you delete them). But there are lots of other options missing (for ex. if you send a message from mail client then you won’t find that message under sent items in your mailbox).

WHICH IS BETTER? POP OR IMAP?

Given a choice, I’d go with IMAP. That’s because IMAP offers two way connection. Changes are synchronized to the server and you don’t have to worry about taking your mail client with you everywhere. However, if you are someone who hardly checks mail on any other computer then you could make use of POP too.

» Email sending

To send emails using Gmail server enter these details:

SMTP Host: smtp.gmail.com
SMTP Port: 587
SSL Protocol: OFF
TLS Protocol: ON
SMTP Username: (your Gmail username)
SMTP Password: (your Gmail password)

Also make sure your "From email address" in HESK settings is set to your Gmail email address!

Still no luck? Check with your host if they have port 587 blocked in firewall.

» POP3 fetching

To fetch mail from Gmail server enter these details:

POP3 Host: pop.gmail.com
POP3 Port: 995
TLS Protocol: ON
POP3 Username: (your Gmail username)
POP3 Password: (your Gmail password)

Important: make 100% sure that "POP3 download" in your Gmail settings is set to "Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on". If not, Gmail will send all existing (even read) messages to HESK when it first connects.

» IMAP fetching

To fetch mail using IMAP from Gmail server enter these details:

POP3 Host: imap.gmail.com
POP3 Port: 993
Encryption: SSL
POP3 Username: (your Gmail username)
POP3 Password: (your Gmail password)

Configuring NTFS quotas to set storage limits for users

How to check system information using System Information

Whatever hardware is on your computer, chances are that you'll be able to find it in System Information. As you open the tool, you'll see the System Summary, which includes information like system model, system type, processor, BIOS information and last firmware update date, and installed memory.

The graphics card information isn't available in the System Summary, but if it's something you want to find out, you can quickly view this information by expanding Components and selecting Display.

Alternatively, you can use the search box to find the information you need, but just remember to be specific, as this is not your typical search on Google or Bing.

How to generate a complete system information report

One interesting feature about System Information is the ability to create a report with your entire system specifications. This is particularly useful if you run into a hardware failure and the computer won't boot; if you've run a complete report and stored it up on OneDrive it'll still be accessible so you know what all is inside your computer, even if the computer itself can't tell you anymore.

To generate a report, do the following:

1. Open System Information.
2. Select the information you want to export. For example, if you select System Summary, you'll be exporting every piece of information. However, if you only want to export your computer's graphic card details, you can simply select Display.
3. Click on File.
4. Click on Export.
5. Browse the location to save the file.
6. Enter a descriptive name and click Save to complete the task.

The report is a text file that you can open with any text viewer, even on your phone.

How to check system information using Command Prompt

You can also use systeminfo.exe, which is a command-line tool that allows you to get a great deal of information about your system. This tool will even tell you when the operating system was installed!

To see your system information using this utility, do the following:

1. Open the Start menu and do a search for Command Prompt.
2. Right-click the result and select Run as administrator.
3. Type the following command and press Enter:
   systeminfo
